Laundry Day in Balat

This original artwork is inspired by the beauty of the ordinary - an apartment block in the colourful neighbourhood of Balat in Istanbul. The patterned laundry against the colors and surface textures of the building just had to be painted.

Created on board using layers of collage and acrylic paint to create a subtly textured surface.

Sunlight and Shadows, Balat

This original artwork is inspired by a day spent in the colourful neighbourhood of Balat in Istanbul.

Imagine wandering the city on a hot afternoon, and the relief of escaping from the sunlight into the cool shadows of the side streets. Every corner turned reveals colourful houses, many with laundry lines - a favourite subject.
