Spring arrives gently on the Bodrum Peninsula. After the quiet, cooler months of Winter, the first signs of the new season begin to appear—longer days, milder air, and a sudden, joyful explosion of colour across the landscape.
The hills and fields are transformed by carpets of wildflowers: delicate red poppies, a froth of chamomile daisies, the soft blues of chicory, purple lupins, pale pink asphodel, vivid yellow wild fennel, as well as orchids and tiny irises waiting to be discovered in shady corners.
In the villages and gardens, bursts of bougainvillea, roses, wisteria, oleander, and hibiscus begin to appear, adding splashes of magenta, purple, crimson, and coral to whitewashed walls.
In pots on the terrace, daisies and geraniums come to life. Aloes and agaves throw up spikes of colourful flowers.
Wild pear, apricot, peach, and almond trees begin to bloom, scattering their delicate blossoms across the quiet roads and garden paths. The air is fragrant with the sweet scent of orange and lemon blossoms.
For me, spring here is endlessly inspiring. It’s a season of energy and possibility, and that feeling flows straight into my studio. I find myself drawn to capturing the beauty of it all. These ephemeral everyday scenes feed my love for pattern, colour, and the poetry of ordinary moments.
On dog walks along country tracks, or working in my garden studio, surrounded by the spring colour, I can’t help but be influenced by its energy, its fleeting beauty, and the joy it brings. This has directly inspired my Decorative Floral still life collection, which celebrates the intricate patterns, bold colours, and natural rhythms that the changing seasons in Bodrum offer in such abundance.
